CanGym

Classes for girls and boys 6 to 8 years of age

Our badge program is a sequential and motivational program that develops the participants’ gymnastics skills in a well-established series of progressions. In a structured, safe and encouraging environment, children will learn and complete a variety of skills utilizing the primary pieces of gymnastic equipment. As the gymnasts progress through the badges, building their strength, flexibility and skill set, they will grow in both ability and confidence.

Children with little to no experience in gymnastics will start off in the Burgundy/Red Badge class. Gymnasts will begin to learn about gymnastics fundamentals and start gaining physical fitness/strength by participating in a warm-up/stretching period and then proceeding to work on basic gymnastics skills on all of the gymnastic apparatus’.

At the end of each session, every gymnast will receive a progress report card which will indicate their individual progress towards the applicable badge. The progress report card will also provide the coaches recommendation on which class the gymnast should register in for the following session. Gymnasts must pass the current badge they are registered in before advancing to the next level. The levels in order are Burgundy, Red, Tan, Bronze, and Purple.

We endeavour to group participants at each badge level as closely in age as possible. However, due to the popularity and high enrollment some age variety may happen within some classes.

Parents are welcome to stay and view the class from our viewing area upstairs.

Class Length: 1-1.5 hours per week

CANGYM National Badge Program

The CANGYM National Badge Program is Gymnastics Canada’s National Skill Development and Evaluation program for Men’s and Women’s Artistic Gymnastics.

This program is intended for use with participants of varying abilities, including beginner level participants through to entry-level competitive gymnasts. Utilizing the CANGYM badge program allows participants, coaches, and parents to monitor progress in addition to being a motivational tool for athletes.

The CANGYM program includes three levels (Bronze, Silver & Gold) of skill progressions based on Gymnastics Canada’s FUN, FITNESS, and FUNDAMENTALS Educational Philosophy, which helps to create a friendly and stimulating environment for all participants. Each level consists of 4 badges for a total of 12 different coloured badges that participants receive upon successful completion of that badge. Within the Bronze level there is a focus on mastering fundamental movement patterns. Within the Silver level, the focus is on mastering fundamental skills on men’s and women’s artistic apparatus, while the Gold level focuses on mastering the identified target skills.

St. Albert Gymnastics Club offers the Bronze level which consists of the Burgundy, Red, Tan and Bronze badges and the Purple badge in the Silver Level.  Gymnasts that have successfully passed all 5 badges can move into our Provincial Level program. This class allows gymnasts the opportunity to master more complex skills while gaining the benefits of physical fitness, including increased strength and flexibility. The Provincial Level Classes are 2 hours in length, once per week.

The second edition of the CANGYM – ARTISTIC program is endorsed by Olympic Champion Kyle Shewfelt.
